The Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana has the aim of providing all the households those belong from below poverty line (BPL) in India, the primary source of cooking by providing LPG cylinders to the households.
India is known to have given the accommodation to households over twenty-four crores (24 crores). It is known after the analysis that the number of ten crores (10 crores) households in India runs their cooking process by relying on firewood, coal, dung cakes, woods and etcetera. The smoke of the burning fuels are very harmful to the person cooking in the household and as well as for the environment.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana has helped the households by ensuring their safety in terms of health by giving out LPG gas cylinders to the households. The Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana ensures the safety and protection of the smoke that is emitted by the firewood while cooking. Those gases are known to be very harmful to an individual, and also increase the death rate by causing fatal diseases due to the daily intake of such harmful gases.

The women cooking with the help of firewood is known to inhale smoke which is equivalent to four hundred cigarettes (400 cigarettes) an hour.
- By issuing the LPG gas cylinder connections women will no longer have to use the fossil fuels like dung cakes, or firewood for cooking for their families. This can help to prevent all the respiratory illness that comes to the way of anyone’s life and leads that person to death. The Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana is also helping to decrease the death rate by supplying the LPG gas cylinder connections to the households.
Benefits of the Scheme:
- The household members get rid of the problems regarding the cooking which takes a lot of time when it is done by the firewood, dung cakes and woods etcetera.
- The Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana has been helping the women to cook without any health issues and hazards. There are cases where the kerosene cylinder exploded leading to the death of the one who was cooking for the household.
- After an analysis, the Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana has come to the conclusion that five lakhs (5 lakhs) are the number of deaths caused by the explosion of kerosene cylinders while the individual eas cooking.
- The Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana, also aims towards a cleaner and greener city, for the better future and better tomorrow of the Indian citizens. Hence, the citizens get the benefit of getting a cleaner and greener India, which has less number of pollution caused by the firewood, dung cakes, woods, coal, and etcetera because of cooking.
- The Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana has the aim of prevention of the children’s health by reducing the amount of smoke emitted by the gases of the firewood and dung cakes and coal while cooking.
Eligibility criteria for the scheme:
The women applying for the scheme of Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana has to be from the families from the below poverty line (BPL). The women applying for this Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana has to be above the age of eighteen years (18 years).
